Hi loves!
What luck, twice in one week :)
Happy spring break, to those who celebrate. I’m a lapsed spring breaker but I’m thinking very seriously about getting back into it. Anyone with me?
HOUSE NEWS
It hasn’t been all work and no play this week at Culture House though, VP Jaimie Woo (founding board member of Young Entertainment Activists) helped put on & attended the Hollywood Climate Summit’s interactive panel & party, HOT MESS: Comedy & Satire in Climate Stories & Campaigns.
Shout out to our bestie Jana Schmieding (Rutherford Falls, Reservation Dogs) as well as Zainab Johnson (Hijabs Off, Upload), Ian Brennan (The Politician, Glee), and comedian Esteban Gast for making the night such an impactful one. 🌍
For the 3rd week running, I am writing to you from the Delta terminal at LAX ✈️, the unofficial (would love to make it official, D. Call me 😉) sponsor of the Culture House weekly. Which brings me to some good news…
We are nominated for a Brand Film Award for The World In A Glass: Tahiirah Habibi of the Hue Society a short film we did for Marriott Bonvoy. Who is in London on April 23rd and can accept on our behalf if we win???? (I could be, but only if….Delta?)
TRENDING & IN THE CULTURE
You may be thinking…she never told us whyyy she’s on a plane again? Where’s the pay off? Well, we’ve made it. I’m on my way to our nation’s capital for the 2024 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center.
I am on one of the boards of the Kennedy Center, the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts. Being a good board member, as I try to be, I make a real effort to be at the fun events 🙃, but in all sincerity, we are making a big to do about this particularly event, getting on planes and trains (Amtrak, we love you too bb) and metros, gathering a group of *All Stars* for one simple reason: we are obsessed with comedy.
We all know that comedy is central to the human experience, but especially right now, at a time of political and social consciousness fatigue, comedy is the way we will continue to advocate for and advance a vision for a better world through entertainment. (I write more about the difference between consciousness raising and coalition building here.) Comedy is our North Star for 2024.
This year’s Mark Twain honoree is Kevin Hart, and he will be celebrated by a group of his peers, luminaries like Jerry Seinfeld, Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Nelly, Lil Dicky and, fittingly, a Culture House girl gang: Carri, Rae, Phoebe, Skye Townsend, Sonia Rockwell, Deesha Dyer, Sehr Thadhani... See you in the streets DC, and obviously stay tuned to the gram for our trademark peacocking. @culturehousemedia
Keeping it short and sweet this week. As always, we are rooting for you and believe in you.
Much love,
Carri, Rae & Nicole
