HOUSE NEWS…Sundance!
This weekend Rae is carrying the Culture House flag in Park City for the Sundance film festival. Last night Rae celebrated our friends Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Joseph Patel, ONYX president Tara Duncan and VP Jihan Robinson at the premiere of their film Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) directed by Questlove and produced by Joseph Patel.
If you, like Rae, are rocky mountain high, then go find Rae and say Hello!!! Later TODAY she will speak at a Producers Table: Behind the Scenes, Shaping Global Cinema
About the convo: This dynamic conversation brings together producers from the diaspora to explore the vital role of producers in championing stories on a global scale. With their collective successes, they embody the power of producing as a driving force behind impactful narratives.
Raeshem Nijhon (Emmy nominee; Founder and Executive Producer, Culture House) and Guneet Monga Kapoor (Producer; Academy Award winner, Period. End of Sentence and The Elephant Whisperers) will be in conversation moderated by Sucharita Tyagi (film critic and former radio personality). Be sure to check it out and Say hi!!!
HOT TAKE….Friendly Reminder…media shapes our world.
This week Bloomberg News released this article: The Second Trump Presidency, Brought to You by YouTubers Podcasters including Joe Rogan, Theo Von and Logan Paul are mobilizing America’s men to lean right. An analysis of over 2,000 videos shows how.
The article, which I STRONGLY encourage anyone curious about what is happening in America right now to read because details just how meticulously and intentionally the media was leveraged not just to win a single election but to change an entire cultural values system.
The much and often discussed man-o-sphere was actually designed, and worked beautifully. Young men, who overwhelmingly voted for Joe Biden in 2020, swung hard to the right in 2024, with over 50% backing Trump. Podcast guests like Andrew Tate, Tucker Carlson, and Elon Musk boosted messaging promoting hardline masculinity, distrust in institutions, and criticism of gender politics and vaccines.
So, as we celebrate film at Sundance, as we think about what culture and art to support this weekend, as we get back to our desks and edit bays on Monday, a friendly and firm reminder that what we make, the stories we tell, the demand we create, shapes the world that all of us, from the oldest to the newest members of our families, will live in.
IN THE CULTURE
Last weekend in DC we threw an inaugural dinner for Twigg & Jenkins, celebrating the first season of the podcast with friends, journalists, elected officials, show guests and the team. Twigg & Jenkins is gearing up for season 2 and diving deeper in the culture that makes our politics tick, and vice versa. Something tells me there's lots of material for us to cover! If you have feedback or guest suggestions you can always get in touch with the podcast at TwiggandJenkinspodcast@gmail.com
This week we interviewed Marianne Williamson, the NYT best-selling author, spiritual leader, and candidate for DNC chair joins us on Twigg & Jenkins.
Have a great time out there friends!
