Culture @ the DNC
The biggest news and cultural moves this week will be coming from the Midwest. See you in the Chi.
Hi loves!!
Happy Friday Y'all,
So by now, many of you heading toward Chicago for next week's Democratic National Convention have learned that despite many other talents, I cannot in fact, create a functioning google form. If you tried to sign up for an invite to our party and were thwarted by my lack of computer prowess, please email: Esme@culture.house and she will get you all sorted.
This is the spiciest mid-August we've seen in a minute, isn't it friends? Typically the domain of Martha’s Vineyard or other such havens of Soft Girl Life, we at Culture House are using the annual Hollywood rest summer period to make moves in arenas outside of traditional entertainment.
This week, Rae was back at the United Nations working on our next film with the UN Office of Partnerships. A day spent talking gender equality, peace and justice, and wellness with the formidable Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed and Annemarie Hou inspires all the gratitude. Leveraging entertainment to further the work of the women who are shaping the future around us, is the kinda stuff that makes it worth being ambitious in August. Shoutout to Producer Meghan Scibona Film Premiering soon at UNGA 2024!

TRENDING… The Democratic National Convention
Much like the way film festivals used to be about the actual packaging, financing, showcasing and selling of films before turning into see-and-be-seen brand sponsored party circuits, national political conventions which used to be where you actually chose the nominee and fought over the platforms the respective parties stood for, have turned into social occasions. Hence, me organizing outfit selections weeks in advance.
It’s like if Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, Tribeca and the Oscars were one thing and only happened every four years - but instead of movie stars and producers it was policy wonks, journalists, elected officials, activists, and the politically minded celeb. That's the best way I can describe what is about to descend on the City of Chicago. This particular convention has a distinct kind of sizzle. Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are Hollywood people. They live in town, they understand the biz. And their friendships are deep and true. Beyond getting a nationwide 2016 do-over shot at electing the first woman as President of the United States, we also have a rare chance to elect a president that brings Glitz, brings Glam, brings Fun, brings Creativity, brings Competency and Cultural engagement to new levels in the White House. Very chic, friends. Very Chic indeed.
This coming Monday through Thursday will be the Harris campaign's first prime time moment since launching her campaign to lay out her vision to the American people. Every major national figure will be there in some capacity, along with the tradition of surprise guests and performers. Im crossing my fingers, lighting candles and arranging my crystals for a surprise Beyoncé performance.
The schedule as we know it so far:
Monday: President Joe Biden (*I think he will get the loudest, longest ovation of the week) and fmr Secretary of State Hilary Clinton
Tuesday: Fmr President Barack Obama
Wednesday: Fmr President Bill Clinton, Vice Presidential nominee Tim "Papa" Walz
Thursday: Vice President Kamala Harris and Beyoncé (speaking it into existence)
Will you watch this week?? DM, Email or text us your thoughts, your impressions or questions. We will be on the ground and will gladly spill any tea our cups get filled with.
