A last (?) hurrah at the Kennedy Center
The Kennedy Center's Mark Twain prize goes to Conan O'Brien, Carri is leaving town, a new episode of Twigg & Jenkins and Immersive takes over Miami!
Hi friends!
If you are reading this it means we have once again made it to Friday. Congratulations everyone! These days I’m not always 100% sure we are gonna pull it off. So kudos to us all.
HOUSE NEWS
It’s another day another dollar here at CH and we are heads down. Next week we might have a bit more spice for you, but as for now, we are just working? I am OOO and reclaiming Adult Spring Break next week, but the newsletter will go on!!! keep your eyes peeled for a special guest editor :)
TRENDING…
As you may recall, I used to be on a board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts prior to the current administration's take over. One of the things the big trustee board of the center does, is make recommendations to the KC president about who should win their annual, marquee prizes: Kennedy Center Honors and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The honorees for both prizes are selected nearly a year in advance of the award ceremonies. Last year, Conan O’Brien was selected for the Mark Twain and was awarded the prize in a ceremony in DC this week.
If it hasn’t yet crossed your feed, I encourage you to watch this clip of Conan’s acceptance speech. Conan deftly uses the occasion to remind us of the power of comedy to call out bullies, hypocrisy, racism, antisemitism, narrow-mindedness, greed and cruelty in all its forms.
“what does this have to do with Comedy? It has everything to do with comedy. The comedy that I have loved all of my life. The comedy that is self-critical and deflating and dedicated to the proposition that we are flawed, absurd, and wallowing in the mud, together.” - Conan
It is truly worth the three minutes. The ceremony in full (which is incredible) airs on Netflix, beginning Sunday, May 4th.
Congratulations, Team Coco 🥳🥳
IN THE CULTURE
Another week, another episode of Twigg & Jenkins to break down the latest out of Washington and all the cultural tie ins that make it all make sense (kind of)
Wishing JuJu a speedy recovery (if you read last week, you know).
xo,
Carri, Rae, Nicole and Mikhael
So love this newsletter!
