Ahoy babes!!!
Greetings from the high seas!!! I am currently on a ship sailing the Atlantic as part of the Summit at Sea conference. As you've likely gleaned from my behavior the girl loves to be On. The. Go. It's one of the ways that creativity shows up in my life - new friends, new sights, smells, sounds, new experience
Shout out to some of our favorite friends who are on this boat this week sharing their work and their own creativity. dream hampton, Nina Hampton, Ashley Allison, Jordan Vaughn, Michael Hebb, Dj Nice, Joyelle Nicole Johnson and so many more. We love you deep.
TRENDING: As I was laying out last week's newsletter, I asked around for what to write about. Which is typically how I spend most Wednesdays (or Thursdays if I'm procrastinating). Last week I received two suggestions:
First, Phoebe Bourke, direct descendant of Irish Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley and comedy icon, suggested community…
Second, Nicole Galovski, CH Co-Founder and Macedonian, which means she's probably descended from Alexander the Great, suggested exploring what it means to live a creative life.
Phoebe got to me first, and as compensation for ending my weekly panic spiral, I wrote about community. BUT Nicole's idea was such a good one that it warranted not only this backstory, but also the next issue's trending theme.
What prompted Nicole's suggestion you may ask? I'll tell you…
Nicole was ruminating on this concept in quiet moments after successfully pulling off a year in the making Thomas Crowne Affair themed surprise party for her husband Tripp's 40th birthday (a surprise I nearly ruined in a hotel hallway in Austin, Texas but that's a tale for another day). This extravaganza involved gliders, sailboats, cocktail attire, a Nina Simone cover band and a surprise trip to St. Lucia. As someone who barely remembers the birthdays of the people closest to me, the idea of planning a surprise party on this level is truly beyond me. But it takes genuine creativity, patience, ingenuity and love. AND it’s an important reminder for people who earn their coins in creative industries. Too often our creativity, our best ideas, our labors of love, our genius is applied only to work and not to ourselves, our loved ones, or our communities.
Rae, Nicole and I all have passions outside of Culture House and one of the privileges we experience as entrepreneurs of a human-experience first kind of company, is nurturing those passions in ourselves and encouraging each other to do so as well. We don't always excel at this…but by having the convo I hope it will remind us as a company and you, dear reader, that saving some of your best work and juiciest ideas for yourself and your people is not only OK, but perhaps the highest expression of our lives.
We know first hand that fueling ourselves and our passions creates a virtuous cycle that ultimately benefits Culture House in every way. What is your version of a virtuous cycle that fuels the various realms of your life?
Thats it for this week folks! Because as I mentioned I am on a boat and this week’s newsletter is all that is between me and a Piña Colada.
We will be back next week with the next edition of the Culture House Book Club!! hang on to your bookmarks and have a great weekend.
lots of love,
Carri, Rae and Nicole.
